Folks, I had such a rough winter. I'm pretty sure 2016 was a bastard-and-a-half for everyone, and it certainly was not going to go out without a fight for me. This included multiple A&E trips for multiple family members, an ambulance ride in the middle of the night for one, and finally me having to be signed off sick from work for two weeks over my birthday.
The good news is that everything is fine now. More than fine, even. Why? Because everyone is alive and well, and I'm pregnant! Phil and I had our little guy pretty young by our generation's standards. We decided from the get-go that we wanted to have kid(s) young and be done young, to get the full benefit of having started relatively early. So, at the beginning of 2017 we decided that we would like to have one more kiddo, and went for it. The first trimester was rough (let me tell you: 12.5 hour shifts are Not Fun with morning sickness), just as it was with the little guy, but I'm feeling more like myself again now, at 15 weeks gestation.
Career wise, this was a good time for me, as I completed the first part of the three-part Intensive Care qualification in December (yes, during the Moment of Insanity mentioned in paragraph 1.) and would like to finish completing our wee familia now before continuing. Last baby now. Professional ambition after. It's no secret that balancing motherhood and career goals is unfairly difficult, but the reality is that to move one further along, the other has to coast for a bit. I have a few exciting nursing-related opportunities ahead of me to tell you all about, but I'll save it for when it's time to cross that bridge.
Speaking of good things, I recently got to shoot illustrious plus size fashionista, Stephanie Yeboah, for her blog. She's a shining light on the internet, providing much-needed representation for plus size women of colour, and is a positive role model for women in general.

One of my current goals is to continue to make time for more creative pursuits, like keeping up with photography and modeling more. I definitely wilt when I let my creativity fall by the wayside, so I'm making more effort to be mindful of this. The ICU where I work periodically holds staff photography competitions, which is so sweet and fun!
